The Codex is up and running again Tue 03 January 2012, 22:14:31
Some of you may have noticed that the Codex was down for a while. Don't be alarmed, all DU & the others did was to update the forums to phpBB3, and the new design looks bitchin'.
If you had an account there, the password most likely didn't carry over in the transition. Just use the password recovery function and you'll be fine.
One day I might upgrade T-A to phpBB3, too.

Age of Decadence Thu 29 December 2011, 14:44:43
You may have heard about Age of Decadence, the spiritual successor to Fallout developed by Irontower Studio? If not, you may want to browse their official homepage here!
Age of Decadence is an isometric RPG set in a post-apocalyptic world reminiscent of the Roman Empire. Irontower Studio promises multiple solutions to every quest, non-linear gameplay and seven different endings. What's not to love?
We are now hosting the Combat Demo, so if you want to try out some classy and strategically heavy TB combat, copy 'n paste www.terra-arcanum.com/downloads/other/AoD_demo_R3_1.exe into your browser and download it! If you liked the way combat was handled in Fallout, you'll love this.
It seems that the full game will be released soon as well. Stay tuned.

Tim Cain joins Obsidian, working on Arcanum 2? Thu 13 October 2011, 02:08:52
According to his Facebook profile, Tim Cain (Former Lead Developer of Troika Games) has joined Obsidian Entertainment. Obsidian are best known for their RPG-Lites with shitty uncontrollable in-game cameras built with other people's technology.
Will this mean Arcanum 2? (The Arcanum IP is owned by Sierra Entertainment still I think). Will this mean some sort of similar game that's not quite a sequel but is in an unofficial way? Are we just wildly speculating?
Possibly... Possibly...

Tim Cain does interview on Arcanum and Fallout 3 Tue 13 July 2010, 11:41:12
Matt Chatt has an interview with Tim Cain on Youtube. The Master himself mentions what it was like working on Arcanum and the other Troika games and what Bethesda did wrong with Fallout 3 (as if though we didn't already know).

The Ultimate List of Arcanum's Easter Eggs Fri 17 July 2009, 15:40:57
Around a week ago I decided to make the definite compilation of all Easter eggs and pop-culture references found in Arcanum, since it turned out nobody ever bothered to make one. And here it finally is. Some of the things mentioned in this article could be common knowledge, some are rare, and some were never seen before. This isn't a complete list, however, it's obvious that there will be new additions, so I encourage everyone to contribute by sending me their finds.
Have a good read!

rroyo is awesome in ways unknown to man. Fri 22 May 2009, 23:32:43
What we do know however is that he has created a staggering amount of art to be used for your modding experiments. Last time anyone checked, we had roughly 109 scenery pieces and 40 items of his doing in the art section , which means that rroyo is a little bit more than human.
Here's a list of the goodies rroyo has done:
***Scenery***

BeerBarrels A small, tapped barrel to sit upon the bar. Comes with a flip.

Arcanum High Resolution Patch hits 1.1 Fri 01 May 2009, 09:33:04
Version 1.1 of the high resolution patch is out. List of changes:
- Fixed the spells/skills buttons on the bottom panel. The spells/skill menu doesn't disappear anymore if the corresponding button is still pressed.
- Added a new optional component: Compact Options Screen. This breaks the options screen into 3 parts (top, middle and bottom), just like with the other menus.
- Fixed mouse cursor detection issues with the character creation menu. Gender, race and background fields now get properly detected.
- Fixed mouse cursor detection issues with many multiplayer related menus.
- The NPC response window now gets proportionally larger when the larger dialog font component is installed. Now all text fits correctly.
- Fixed all issues with the larger logbook font. Now all text fits correctly and page numbers are visible.
- Added size 18 dialog fonts as an option.

Unofficial Arcanum Patch v081229 Mon 29 December 2008, 23:23:41
After a slightly long wait a new version of the Unofficial Arcanum Patch is released. The list of changes is pretty big, and it includes a plenty of restored content in addition to the fixes. All changes are listed here.
The new version follows a slightly different format. Almost everything is now included in a single installer. Apart from the core patch, optional components are available, the most important of them being the Extra Content module (which is mostly based on the Extra Pack).
The new installer is compatible with older versions, so if you have the UAP (with the Extra Pack or not) installed, it will detect it and upgrade without problems. However, the 1024x768 patch has been discontinued and must be uninstalled.
Apart from the main patch you can also use the High Quality Townmaps' pack and either version of the newly released High Quality Music.

Arcanum Soundtrack, Now in High Quality! Mon 29 December 2008, 23:19:42
I'm proud to say that after all these years the Arcanum soundtrack is finally available in high quality! By a stroke of luck, one of the few promotional CDs that were distributed in Europe for free was found.
The soundtrack was never released commercially, and all we had were the mp3 (128 kbps) version that Sierra made available for free download and the in-game version, which had the same quality. But since the mp3 files were available for free download, one would assume that distributing the uncompressed tracks is also legal, but alas Sierra never released them.
A few weeks ago I found a person (who preferred to stay anonymous) that had a promotional CD and was willing to share the original tracks with everyone. And now the Arcanum soundtrack is here, in all its glory!
Terra-Arcanum is proud to present you the Arcanum soundtrack in lossless quality!
DOWNLOAD THE SOUNDTRACK (21 tracks, WAV format, 265 Mb)
The soundtrack has also been converted for the in-game use. While you can download the MP3 version (320 kbps) (101 Mb), it's also possible to use the original wave tracks in the game with the help of this small patch.
I'd like to thank Mr. Houge for his magnificent and moving music. Only thanks to this fine gentleman we can enjoy such a unique work. He poured a great deal of love and attention into his music and it's greatly appreciated. I encourage everyone to read his notes and comments on the soundtrack.
And most importantly, if you're interested in Arcanum and its soundtrack please consider purchasing a CD if the soundtrack ever gets a commercial release.

High Quality Townmaps! Thu 30 October 2008, 17:40:38
The townmaps in Arcanum (those accessible from the map icon that is) always looked kinda gritty and pixelated. With the introduction of the High Quality Townmaps mod made by Drog Black Tooth however, you can now choose to let this slight inconvenience be a thing of the past!
For more details, go this thread: http://terra-arcanum.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=15119
Enjoy!

Downtime this morning Sun 14 September 2008, 01:33:30
There'll be a bit of downtime this morning as we're changing our server to a shiney new box. Everything should be all right and working again in a few hours (hopefully).
UPDATE: All righty. Everything is okay and appears to be working. Carry on.

The Download Section updated Thu 17 July 2008, 20:54:42
As you may have noticed, the Download section was getting rather confusing what with the ever-growing amounts of content that makes it to it (that there's still so much custom content being made by fans seven years after the release of Arcanum is mind-boggling really, and testament to what a great game it is).
I have to admit though, that my skills with HTML aren't exactly what you might call stellar. That's where jolly good fellows like The_Bob get into the picture. The current look of the Download section is all his doing. The world has finally become a bit less confusing.
Thanks The_Bob!
